“ a place of peace, a place of rest…”
Back in the summer of 2022, the Lord laid a vision on our hearts during an 8 week period of leading worship at church. It was something beyond our grasp and even our ability to comprehend. As we were driving home from one of the Sunday nights, I saw a painting, a vision of what’s to come…
It was a painting of a dark forest, under a foggy moonlit night. There was a road running straight ahead and then curving off to the left, into the forest. And on the right side of the road, set back in the woods, was an old ( medieval looking ) inn. With light coming from inside and lanterns lit on the outside. I heard the Lord say, “ This will be a place of rest and respite. A place of peace for the weary traveler and the tired warrior. To be given rest, peace and provision. To have their swords sharpened, their quivers filled with arrows and their shields repaired and reinforced. And sent back out on the road, to continue their quest. A 24/7, 365 house of worship.”
A house of worship, where the presence of the Lord is what sustains us. Where one can come in and sit in the presence of the Lord and receive spiritual and physical sustenance. A place for people to grow in their gifting. Where they are encouraged to grow, but not just in their gifts and talents, but in their love of the gift giver, Jesus, the Messiah! A house that seeks to develop and grow the heart of the true, authentic worshiper.
The first time the word “worship” is used in the scriptures was in Genesis 22:5 “Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.” The Hebrew word here used for worship is שָׁחָה shachah, and it carries with it the normal definitions of what it means to worship; fall down, lay down flat, humbly beseech, ect… But it also contains a meaning to “ do or make obeisance “, or to DO obedience. One of, if not the purest form of worship, is our obedience to the commandments that Jesus set before us.
“If you love me, you will obey my commandments.” - John 14:15
Jesus called us to love the Lord and each other. And to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, invite the stranger, to visit those in prison and the sick. The true heart of a worshipper, is to do the will of the Father, and love those whom He loved.
A house, that is restoring the heart of worship.
